Product Description

Dynamic Yoga is a unique combination of dynamic breathing and strong, flowing movement which creates a high-heat, high-energy workout. The choreographed sequence of postures that flow into one another build strength, unwind tight joints, and loosen muscles. It is a complete mind and body workout that develops concentration and reduces stress. Dynamic Yoga, based on the techniques of Astanga Vinyasa Yoga, is the fast, powerful form of yoga which has taken the yoga world by storm. It has attracted a lot of interest due to the claims that it can provide as effective a cardiovascular workout as a conventional exercise-to-music class. Thus it is attracting people from the fitness and 'body culture' world who are seeking new ways to keeping super fit. It is fast becoming the new Iyengar in yoga fashion terms.

Customer Reviews

Fantastic photographs and clear, no-nonsense explanation5
I have a lot of yoga books and am a regular practitioner, also teaching beginners. I found this book to have the best illustrations of the postures I've seen so far. Not only that, but the book also explains thoroughly and clearly all aspects of Hatha yoga practice. Although I can't 'do' all the positions in their full form (still too stiff!) I found this book invaluable in its explanation of the fundamentals and think it would be perfect for beginners or experienced people as it captures the essence of what the practice is all about. It's revolutionised my efforts and my understanding of what I'm doing and that in turn has had a hugely beneficial effect. Even though I'd studied with a lot of other excellent books this one was the one which finally made it drop into place. The author has a gift for clarity.

I can't recommend this highly enough.

Classic Hatha Yoga -- No trendy nonsense4
I really recommend this book. It's not a supposedly new form of yoga -- and the author doesn't come across as just some really flexible ex-dancer/gymnast who takes great pictures touting the latest way to look cool while you whittle your waist...

This is an integrated introduction to classical Hatha Yoga -- a combination of practical lessons with just enough historical and spiritual explanation to make you realize that your individual practice can become part of something larger and greater than yourself, if you wish it to. I liked that.

As the author says, this is a useful and safe introduction to yoga practice that is more than just trendy "exotic stretching."

Well worth it5
I bought this book ages ago (well over a year) and it's still in use almost every day - a good 4/5 times a week. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's great for beginners and I had no previous experience, myself, of yoga. The instructions and photos make this book very easy to follow and the chapters at the beginning of the book help get the most out of practicing the postures. I also purchased a video by the author, which is also excellent. I also bought another 2 yoga books, 1 by Iyengar (?) and another by David Swenson - they've hardly been opened. This book's the best.
