Synopsis
After many years of hardship and bravery, the human race faces its greatest challenge. The sweeping war between titanic races - a conflict that has obliterated planets, extinguished entire stars, exterminated whole races - is reaching its end game. Allies become betrayers, strangers become fast friends, and enemies clash in a struggle that will rock the galaxy. For years, the alien Klikiss robots have pretended to be humanity's friends, but their seeming "help" has allowed them to plant an insidious Trojan Horse throughout the Earth Defense Forces, and the sudden rebellion of Earth's own compies leaves millions dead and the Terran Hanseatic League defenseless. In a desperate attempt to save his own race, the Ildiran Mage-Imperator Jora'h is forced into a devil's bargain with the evil hydrogues, which will require him to ambush and destroy what remains of the human race. But the gypsy Roamer clans and the green priests of the towering worldforest - scattered stepchildren of humanity - have found innovative ways to fight, as well as strange allies of incomprehensible power.

That's more than enough.....
Having persevered with this series I felt obliged to read on as much as anything to see "What happened next?". I've now reached my limit & probably should have dropped out after the 2nd book.
Anderson has spun this one out & padded it for far too long and too much. Both depth in characterisation and any attempt at decent science to underpin his fiction are utterly lacking. More's the pity, I wouldn't advise anyone else to even start the first book.
It will take a lot of convincing to get me to try out any of his other work.
Bored of the seven suns
Enough is enough, i'm now bored with the rather predictable characters, the drawn out plots, the short chapters with no substance and the incessant repeating of snippets from previous chapters/books (i'm sure cutting this out would save 200 pages and a few quid). Also How small is this universe when all you do is keep bumping into your family and mates in the cold reaches of space (sounds a bit like Star Wars to me KJA).
I found that I quickly wanted to skip through any chapters involving the stagnant Ildrians and the silly Thismmmm. All in all 5 books should have been plenty, now the series is being milked and I can't face any more.
Saga of six suns too many...
Sorry to say that this is where I jump ship on this series...KJA should have condensed these books from the start(I blame the editors)and let the story breathe instead of juggling all these mini strands. I feel sorry I invested my time (and money) in the early books now because the crawling pace and the short cliffhanger chapters have become too maddening to continue. The more interesting developments and ideas he has are rolled out like they've been rationed.
If he'd made more of a meal of them rather than diluting them into so many flimsy books (with large text) it would have been more satisfying. Pity!
