Customer Reviews
Brilliant, beautiful, difficult, exceptionally elegant
Was everyone expecting The Secret History Part II?? No wonder they're disappointed!
This is an amazing book. Amazing. Better than her debut. Absolutely filled to the brim with pathos, bathos and astonishing literary brilliance. It's a better plot, written better - and I rate The Secret History as a five star book, so you have to know that I love this one a LOT!
Unbelievable
I am shocked to see such poor reviews for this book. I read this during the summer and I found it gripping! Atmospheric, it draws you right in to the hot summer days like you could almost see and hear what the main character is seeing and hearing.
The story is told through the eyes of Harriet, a plucky young girl who sets out to solve the mysterious death of her brother. The way she begins on a naive journey, inspired by the heroes of her books, and gets dragged further and further into a seedy underworld with happenings that she would not fully comprehend, is fantastic. The main character is likeable and gutsy, it is hard not to return to ones own childhood through reading this story.
I couldn't put this book down, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. A dark, engrossing book, and a pleasure to read.
What's Wrong With You People?
Reading some of the other reviews on here made me mad... Okay, people are allowed their opinions, but come on! This is one of the most fantastic books that I've read - and that's saying something. The writing is so atmospherically perfect and the story is powerful and engrossing. This is a masterpiece - even though I hate using that word - by anyone's standards. Please read this book. It is exquisite.
