Product Description

As featured in the first year set texts reading list in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", "Fantastic Beasts and where to find them" is an extensive introduction to the magical beasts that exist in the magical, non-Muggle world. Some of the animals featured in the A-Z you will have already met in the existing Harry Potter books: for example Hippogriff, Flobberworm, Kappa - others you certainly won't. Read on to find out exactly what a Chizpurfle is, why there are so few Erumpents, or why one should always beware of the sinister Lethifold. As Albus Dumbledore says in his introduction, this set text book by Newt Scamander has given the perfect grounding to many a Hogwarts student. It will be helpful to all Muggles out there too. On reading the book you will also find that Harry, Ron and (in one instance) Hermione - couldn't resist grafittiing the book, and adding their own personal hand-written opinions. Did you know that : there are 700 ways of committing a foul in Quidditch? The game first began to evolve on Queerditch Marsh? What Bumphing is? That Puddlemere United is oldest team in the Britain and Ireland league(founded 1163)? All this information and much more could be yours once you have read this book. This is all you could ever need to know about the history, the rules - and the breaking of the rules - of the noble wizarding sport of Quidditch.

Compulsory for anyone serious about their O.W.L exams!5
It has to be said, JK Rowling has really thought out the Harry Potter universe well, and these books only support that claim. Simply put, "Quidditch through the ages" gives you everything you could ever wish to know about the magical sport, and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them" is a great fountain of information about creatures in the main books.

Of course, it would be very easy for these books to become something serious, intense and sleep inducing like some of the Lord of the rings publications around... that is, if Rowling wasn't responsible for them.

"Fantastic Beasts & Where to find them" is filled with some of Harry and Ron's personal doodles, sarcastic comments and pen and paper games, definitely funny stuff. On top of this the articles themselves have an underlying sense of humour to them, especially whena creature already seen in the main books crops up.

"Quidditch through the ages" is completely different, and while it lacks the unique doodles of the fore mentioned book (it is official Hogwarts library property you know!) the history of Quidditch more than makes up for this. In no way is this just a tedious account of how the sport developed, but it talks about strange events, customs and peculiarities which will have you chuckling to yourself as you read.

Would I prefer to see a bigger full version? Yes! But at the end of the day, it's for chairty and definitely worthwhile! A must for anyone who loves Harry Potter or is just a charitable person!

Brilliant compliment to the series5
I've read both these books and I have a bit of an obsession about the series. I got the books separately but I like the design of this set. The books are very enjoyable, very brief that adds to their charm.

I hope someday the "Half-Blood Princes potion book" becomes available.

Wicked fun!5
Who hasnt wanted to know what Harry's school books contains? I sure have, and when given the amazing chance to read them, you just do not turn it down. Written by JKR herself, these books are packed with inside information to the world of Harry Magic, and contains more than a few clues to the septology as a whole. And lets not forget... its for a good cause!!!
