'The author has combined an ingenious adventure story with a wonderfully detailed account of the historical background of the Languedoc ... the result is entirely compelling and full of incidental pleasures.'

there should be a zero star option
Typical case of marketing over substance. i was so bored by this it felt like a lifetime before i managed to fight my way to the end. Just goes to show how the benefit of a good agent and going to the right parties can boost your sales. strictly one for the da vinci morons.
the Grail is about living its time to fulfill a truth for those who withhold its secret
Two parts to the story but sharing the same plot at different times to withhold the secret of the Grail. Two women sharing the same purpose to follow that path of keeping the trail safe for those who would betray and kill whoever in the way. 3 books and a ring will lead the way which Alice & Alais would do the part to protect along with emotional cause with close ones who will fight for their safe purpose; Guilhem, Sajhe, and Will were their heroes.
The plot is complete and espcially intense towards the last quarter of the book. I would have understand the meaning of the 'The Grail' adventure written this way which gave the story more depth with reason to believe the true reason one would keep to obtain 'long life' and serve its purpose to protect the secret for another generation.
I would recommend this book for those who seek reason/adventure to make out another belief of a Grail story. 3 and a half star for this.
Better than Dan Brown but that's not difficult!
I read this whilst in and around Carcassonne, so it held a certain interest. It was the sort of book that I wanted to finish but did not enjoy reading. Very melodramatic, formulaic, entirely unconvincing and, in my opinion, not very well-written. Still I'm sure that Kate Mosse won't be worried by my lack of enthusiasm; she's doubtless made a fortune already and a Hollywood adaptation will surely follow!
