A helpful, informative guide.
I bought the game Sims 2 and I was well chuffed simply because of the variety of people you can be, places you can go and actions you can choose.
To try and add to the excitement I tried buying this 'Official Strategy Guide' book. I recommend that you buy this as soon as you purchase the game. This is because as you get further into the game it eventually gets easier to control.
The guide contains 366 pages, coloured, with diagrams and tips and notes to help you a little bit if stuck. It is set out well but could be better. This is because trying to find something is hard without an index (which this book does not contain!)
But if you have the game and it has been well played I would think twice before purchasing this because it is quite basic for simaholics like me. Maybe new players should buy it to go a little faster.
good book;-P
The aim of this book is to give all the information about the game that isn't already included in the manual, and this aim it does fulfill. The book covers everything from getiting started with a tutorial family to customising everything about your sims and their surroundings. It explains all the new features of the game, including aspirations and fears, ageing and new objects and interactions, but also things that featured in the original Sims, making this book suitable for vets of the Sims and those who are new to the game. The book gives tips on how to use the Sims 2 Bodyshop and how to use the new moviemaking feature. Throughout the book there are quick little note containing important and useful information, which is great for fast reference. Saying all that I have found quite a few grammatical errors in the book, but who cares! Also a lot of the screenshots are difficult to make out as they are quite small, even though the book is in full colour.
But before you decide to buy this book, take a glance at the Sims 2 University guide- zoom in on the cover and you will see that this book is actually included in that book! free! As far as I know only the University part of that book is in colour, but its something to consider if you own the Uni expansion pack, or think you might get it in the future.
Good, thorough guide for a very deep game
I don't buy guides for games all that often, but for this game I thought it was needed. The guide delivers valuable information, containing hints and tips for practically every detail you could ever wish for.
It is also almost 400 pages, so you can't grumble about the quantity. The quality is just as good too, very well written as well as being in full colour on every page. Quite good on the eyes.
The information is well presented, first off all covering the basics for beginners, but then moving on to the main meat of the guide, detailing every vital, and sometimes trivial, piece of information. This is the most helpful and informative section, but it then moves onto a chapter which basically runs through a madeup sims life, showing the result of the information shown in the previous chapter. It then ends with a section devoted to things beyond the game, such as build mode, moviemaking, body shop and even cheats.
Overall, this is a very useful guide for this incredible game, and is highly recommended. The only problems are the fact that it contains no index, so finding something specific can be a bit tricky sometimes, and the price may seem a bit steep to some people.
