Product Description

Along the barren, rocky coast of Pentreath in Cornwall, a woman's battered body washes ashore, and the whispers begin: Nowhere is safe. For evil has come to Pentreath...and to the uneasy shadows of Trevisham House...Fate has brought Jane Heatherington to work at Trevisham House. She knows what they say about the estate's brooding new master, Aidan Warrick: a man of mystery, a pirate, a smuggler, and worse. He may look like a fallen angel, but everything about him suggests he is in league with the devil himself...and Jane has seen nothing to suggest otherwise...Cut off from family and friends, Jane's only companion is a man she dare not trust, who disappears into the night, whose secrets are many, and who looks at her with a hunger she both fears and desires. Now, as danger haunts the coast and a terrible retribution is unleashed, Jane wonders if she is falling for the dark prince of her dreams...or a heartless madman who preys on the innocent...

Customer Reviews

For fans of the brooding tall, dark and handsome as he exhibits both a hero and a villain!5
There is no arguing that British weather is ever changable and since we've had more rain than sun this summer, this book is perfect for the non-summer read. The barren location of Cornwall and the dreary weather within the novel perfectly illustrate the harsh and dark troubled souls of the brave and plain Jane Heatherington and the typically handsome, yet suspiciously mysterious, Aidan Warrick. So the novel was perfect as I stayed out of the brooding weather outside and induldged in a fitting, gothic romance novel.
Set in the 19th Century, the new arrival of a Mr Aidan Warrick stirs excitement and rumours through Pentreath but as a mutilated corpse of a woman washes up on shore, Jane's suspisions of the stranger start a chain reaction of doubt and unease as her alcoholic, widowed father is forced to bind Jane to Aidan Warrick in servitude as means of settling a fianancial dedbt he owes him.
Throughout the novel, Aidan's somewhat kind and generous nature towards her both confuses Jane and causes unease, as his disappearances at night and the scarred and troubled history, regarding her father, he keeps concealed, leaving a curious web of riddles, regarding his damaged and brooding character to mystery, which Jane attempts to solve.
This makes her both desire him and fear him as she battles her desires and his heated looks whilst attempting to unravel mysteries surrounding his character, as whispers of wrecker's and smugglers are feared to be in Pentreath, leaving trails of unease and suspision back to Aidan. Is Aidan Warrick the leader of this activity or is he the Dark Prince of Jane's dreams?
The depth and vastness of the characters as they both battle between light and dark within their souls makes this an absolute page turner! After reading the book twice I am certain I will buy and read again. If you are a fan of literature such as 'Jane Eyre', this is an absolute must read as I couldn't help but feel similar undertones between them. I will be reading more of Eve Silver's work.
