Product Description

Flow is the total absoprtion into an activity, to the point where time seems to stand still, the pressures of the day disappear, and great satisfaction is taken in the moment. The phenomenon as it occurs in sport is explained, and there are seven keys that should help readers use their mind.

Customer Reviews

Useful, but not an introductory one-volume work3
This is not really an introductory level work to sports psychology, not that it is difficult in any sense. But this would perhaps be best read by people more generally into sports psychology rather than someone looking for a one-volume catch-all work on the subject.

I thought that it concentrates a little too much on the 'what' of the concept of Flow rather than the 'how' (namely how to achieve it). I also thought it a little verbose, a little repetitive in saying the same thing in different words. It could have been said more compactly.

Nevertheless, criticisms aside, this is a potentially useful contribution to sports psychology literature.

A seminal work5
This book was published a decade ago (which is when I first read it) & it is still in print. That in itself speaks volumes for its importance. An in-depth analysis of the really important concept of "Flow" applied to Sports Performance but much more accessibly written than many of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's solo-written titles.

Much of what is here is equally applicable within management (and everyday life) too, which Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi deals with specifically in later titles such as "Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention" and especially "Beyond Boredom and Anxiety: Experiencing Flow in Work and Play".

Take time to read & digest it, its worth it!!!
