Nice varied book4
This book contains a series of unlinked articles. They include things such as knife sharpening and cold weather survival as well as use of stone axes and coal beds. They are generally well written and easy to read.
This is however a collection of articles not a single book. It is a good addition to your bookshelf but I wouldn't recommend it as the first book for a beginner.

Not really for the beginner, but a great read anyway.4
Although not targeted at the beginner, this little gem of a book offers much in the way of supplementary information for those with at least the basic knowledge of bushcraft and primitive technology - in fact, the authors would appear to assume this.

Not that beginners won't learn anything from it, they probably will, but it offers more in the way of cultural insights into former ways of life, and qualities of life, that our forebears enjoyed.

The writing styles are varied, but all the articles are informative, well-presented, and written by people who both know what they're talking about, and really care about it.

My only gripe is that it is aimed primarily at American readers (aren't they all!?) but there is at least some that the English or European reader can actually utilise on the ground. This does not detract from the book however; I found myself mentally making comparisons with materials and resources available here anyway - so the theory is sound.

A very pleasant read, I enjoyed it greatly.
