Customer Reviews
A wonderful book for tenderfoot and trapper alike
This book is wonderful- simple illustrations, packed with little tidbits and trivia. Everything from how to make a snare to how to make your own mocassins. It gives its treasure up with a sense of respect and wonder for the natural world.
I remember this book fondly from my childhood- and recall how valued it was by my mountain-man/ trapper grandfather.
If you love the woods, are interested in arts and crafts, have an interest in history and lifestyle of the Native Americans, if you hunt, fish, trap, if you like to camp or just yearn for a simpler more self-sufficient time, buy this book. It is a journey into the past with suprising usefulness even now.
A nice book
Written in 1945 but relevant today. An enjoyable book with quirky illustartions. Lots of useful tips and tricks although written for the American reader.
Traditional Wilderness Skills
I own this book (Canadian Iroquis Reprint Version) for many years now and it remains one of my favourites. It is well written and illustrated, and incorporates the knowledge of first nations people annd early North American trappers. You can easily follow the illustrations even without reading the instructions to build your own teepee for example.
