From champagne to the wines of Lebanon - many surprises
Ever since I bought this book I have been trying to get it back from other members of the household. Mrs Mrad was particularly taken by the section on champagne, and I was very pleased by the survey of organic wine.

As a native of the Middle East, however, I particularly savoured the section on Lebanese wine, which really is now emerging as a country with surprises, variety and good value. The wines recommended by the writer are uniformly good.

The book is excellent value for money.

Fruity, fabulous and at ten pounds a bargain
A very interesting book for anyone who likes a tipple and has anything more than a passing interest in what's in the bottle.

I was particularly interested in the inclusion of Lebanese wine, which, as the section author says, has shown remarkable technical improvement and diversification in recent years. Ksara's Cuvee de Printemps 2001 is indeed a "fabulous, fruity summer red" and the Massaya 2001 Reserve, which has already scooped prizes in Europe, is a revelation.

I also enjoyed the sections on champagne (Mrs Mrad's favourite tipple) and organic wines.

The great thing about the book is its honest, evident in the treatment of Chilean wine. At ten pounds, it is surely one of the year's great bargains.

Essential reading
Superb in concept and execution. This book provides the winelover with all the detail and up to the minute news about wine regions across the world. This book is a must have. Tom Stevenson is to be congratulated in pulling all the contributions together in such a uniform and coherent way and I hope that he will have the energy to do the same every year. Winelovers should support him in this endeavour by purchasing this book and recommending it to others.
