Every Bit as Good as Volume 1
When I write that The Story of the Tour de France, Volume 2 is more of the same (as Volume 1) that's a very good thing. I mentioned how the books tell the real, human side of the race in my review of volume 1. This time I'd like to touch on the accuracy of the the books as a set. As I mentioned earlier, they don't hit you over the head with facts and figures (although they contain a lot of time gaps between racers when that matters), but the McGanns have done thier homework; all information in the books is something you can take right to the bank.
Instead of going on and on about this, just let me say that I have well over 100 cycling books -- most of them abour the Tour de France -- and the McGann's works are in the top three sources I go to when I want to check on what really happened during a stage of the race. Like I said, more of the same -- excellent.
