Synopsis
The Compleat Angler has been in print for over 350 years. Just a how-to book on fishing would not have created such a popular book. Walton's comments on how to catch and prepare numerous varieties of fish create a pleasant leisure read for any fisherman. His anecdotes are as fresh and contemporary today as they were in his century.

Rest to be quiet
The Compleat Angler is, on the face of it, a text book about fly fishing. If that was all it was, I wouldn't have read it, and I wouldn't be urging you to either. It was written in the 17th Century, and was one of the first mass printed books in the English language, and has been in constant print since then. Written in the picturesque language of the period, this paints a picture of a traveller, and his companions as they make their way along the river banks of middle England, in pursuit of their quarry. You will learn about the fish, the rivers, the hostelries, the recipes, the songs, and even the milkmaids. I'm no fisherman, but I suspect that if you are looking for a textbook you could find better. If you're looking for the feeling usually only attainable by sitting under a tree by a river, read this.
