Customer Reviews
A girly, slip-on-your Jimmy Choos interior design book.
I took one look at this book and lusted after each and every one interior depicted on its pages. The look is not as easy as it appears to achieve - a lot of confidence is required, a feel for boho indulgence is necessary and the know-where-to shop know how.The know-where-to-shop is easy. A suppliers list is at the back of the book. Apart from that, who cares? It's a wonderful drool-over book. It's feminine. It's chic. It's simple and, above all it exudes style. It's the look that says 'This is for me...and, maybe, my cat!'. Forget poring over interior design magazines, juxtapositions and eclectic collections - just follow your instincts and this book. Very, very girlie.
That's how you do it!
I happened across this book, The Relaxed Home, while browsing in a bookshop, I poured over it for 45 minutes! I absolutly adore this relaxed yet, elegant style of interior design. This book shows how to be feminine and minimal at the same time. I've always wanted to achieve a sort of creative look, but needed more help. This book showed me several useful suggestions. For instance, one could hang a beautiful dress that is too formal for everyday life on a nice wooden hanger and it suddenly becomes an unusual work of art.
time wasting
This book is largely unhelpful. It uses cliches that everyone who's seen a romantic movie or read a women's magazine will recognise: endless white interiors with a splash of colour, roll-top baths, distressed floors and furniture. The photographer and writer have indulged themselves, not the reader's need to understand the process of designing "the relaxed home." Thus lots of unhelpful closeups(eg waterglass on edge of table) and gems like: "A relaxed bedroom is whatever you want it to be...Write your diary in the privacy of your bedroom. " Gee, thanks!
