Good Book Guide
"She's ratty and rude...a far cry from Chritie's detectives but she's our new village sleuth."

Synopsis
Meet Agatha Raisin - terrifying PR supreme and bumbling amateur sleuth! After years of bullying others as a high-flying public relations boss, Agatha takes early retirement to a picture-perfect village in the Cotswolds. And how better to make friends than by entering the local quiche-making competition? To ensure first prize Agatha buys her entry at a London delicatessen. Alas, Agatha's perfect product is soon exposed - as not only store brought but poisoned. The contest judge succumbs after eating it, and with him go Agatha's chances of rural bliss - unless she can discover the poisoner...

Customer Reviews

Don't bother2
To be fair to this book, the story is nice and interesting. But it is a shame that it is spoiled by the poor writing style. If you can forgive the author for her matter of fact approach which has all the subtlety of crimewatch, then surely you can also forgive the mistakes made within the book itself. Sometimes the characters' names are swapped so you don't know who is talking to whom etc etc.

It will give you some entertainment (though I couldn't actually finish it because I got bored 2/3 of the way through) but there are better books.

Sunday Night tv in book form.3
This is the first of the series and sets the tone pretty well for the other books I have read so far. This is the sort of book you can whip through in a day or so. It makes very light bedtime reading and although it's very silly in places I'm more than happy to take all that tongue in cheek and enjoy it's froth. If you enjoy Midsomer Murders on a Sunday night then you'll probably enjoy this book.

An undemanding but enjoyable read3
Nothing much in the way of real 'whodunnit' territory here - as another reviewer has already commented, much of the book just sets the scene and fills in the background. It's the sort of book to stick in your bag and read while waiting for yet another delayed Metropolitan Line tube...

Not great literature but so what? I enjoyed it and will be reading others from the series.
