From the Inside Flap
Clicker training is the revolutionary new method which has taken the world of training by storm. It was originally developed by Karen Pryor when training dolphins and is established as the leading force-free method of training dogs. Now clickers are proving especially effective with horses. In Clicker Training For Your Horse, top equine trainer and behaviourist Alexandra Kurland provides an entertaining and enlightening introduction to the principles of clicker training, and shows how it can be used to overcome common problems. Throughout the book, Alexandra draws on her own personal experiences, showing how she has tackled various difficulties through the magic of the clicker. From a foal's fear of clippers, and bridling a head-shy horse, to dealing with an adult's aggression or refusal to trailer-load, Alexandra describes each of the steps she has taken in a programme to transform her students into well-mannered, obedient and reliable individuals. Clicker training is not confined to overcoming problems or difficult behaviour, its uses are limited only by your imagination. It can be used for refining your horse's riding skills or teaching him to lift his feet up for you to check ... the sky's the limit! With a foreword by Karen Pryor, Clicker Training For Your Horse is a must-read for every rider, whatever their ability or training experience.

From the Back Cover
Positive reinforcement that works! In this remarkable book, Alexandra Kurland shows you how and why to use the techniques of positive reinforcement and shaping, with a horse. She leads you through the new methodology of clicker training step by step, so that you can do it for yourself. And she makes one of the biggest benefits crystal-clear: Clicker training is not just effective - it's FUN! No matter where you begin, or what happened in the past, you and your horse can learn to work more smoothly together and enjoy each other more. You may even find that you and your 'clicker horse' develop the kind of mutual trust and friendship most owners only dream of having.

About the Author
Alexandra Kurland specialised in animal behaviour for her B.S. degree at Cornell University in America, and went on to study with Linda Tellington-Jones in the 1980s, when she became a Team practioner. Other major influences include the high school dressage tutor Bettina Drummond, and the trainer John Lyons. From these various schools of thought, Alexandra developed her own training program: Riding in a State of Excellence. Alexandra first learned about clicker training in 1993, and has had great success applying the principles to horses.

The Great, Easy 1-2-3...5
This book is the best I've seen on the market about clicker training for horses. All my horses are all C/T-ed and have learnt to fetch, touch, return, nod, count etc. It's easy to follow and it includes interesting examples. This book will make your life w/ you horse much easier. You will understand each other and is great fun for both you and your horse. If you like extending your equine knowledge to the furthest, clicker training is not to be missed!

A cracking book!5
Having heard about horses that have learnt to 'fetch' or hold legs up whilst bandages were applied, I wanted to learn more about clicker training. I bought this book not really knowing what I was getting into and with no prior knowledge whatsoever.

This book has changed everything. My horse really looks forward to doing the exercises explained in the book and he's alot happier for it!

The book starts off with the basics on how to start and builds up to more difficult work (lateral bending/loading etc). Its packed full of really useful hints and tips and is written extremely well (very easy to follow). Its good also because it doesnt insist on you buying expensive 'gadgets' to train with. For target training I use a lid to a supplement!

Even if you're only slightly interested/curious about clicker training, please read this book!

The best place to start5
This book has to be the first on anyones list who wants to clicker train their horse.

It starts off, talking about the basics of clicker training, how to get your horse to touch a target and then progress to leaving their head on it longer and then - C/T-ing a horse to do pretty much anything!

The book takes you through a few examples of what has been done in the past but encourages you to think about what you would like to teach, break it down into small peices and then work your way through it. C/T can be used for almost anything, a horse standing still whilst you are mucking out around him, getting a horse to load itself, a horse holding its leg up for you to bandage it.... the possibilities are endless, you can even use it to improve your ridden work.

If you're interested in C/T then buy this book!
