Synopsis
This trusted guide is now in its eighth edition. All of the places are inspected and are good value, whether remote and simple or wrapped in luxury. The selection will provide plenty of inspiration for a weekend away, a family holiday and even a business trip. There is a smugglers' inn, a cliff-top castle, a 16th-century priory, a 21st-century, French inspired local, a 1735 mansion on the River Wye, a Palladian masterpiece (where James Bond played Goldfinger at golf) and one of the best hotels in the country for walking, set in 38 acres of blissful Dartmoor silence. Clear symbols, excellent maps, colour photos, clear directions and quick reference indices help guide our readers to the best choice for them, and our fresh and lively write-ups paint an accurate picture. Our approach is unusual and subjective. There are no set rules, no interminable checklists and no hard and fast criteria for inclusion. We look for what we like, and celebrate the unusual, the beautiful and the individual.
Customer Reviews
Excellent!
This is a great book showing the best Hotels and Inns in the U.K. Since purchasing it I have used it several times, never to be dissapointed. Its definitely worth a buy.
Another gem...
You cannot go wrong with the Alalstiar Sawday guides. I look forward to the new editions being released to see what new properties are included. The properties range from cheap and cheerful B&B's to really plush hotels, there is something here for everyone. I have used the guides to book properties in Italy, France, Ireland and England, and have yet to be disappointed by my choices. This book is a real find amid lots of mediocre guides out there...
Quirky insights into Britain's classic places to stay
This is the sixth edition of one of the most invaluable guides of where to stay in the UK. I have most of Sawday's guides and this is typical of his unique insights.
The guide lists delightful places to rest your head which often have a feel of yester-year Britain. If you know Sawday's style you're never left in any doubt that he has got to the heart of every place he's stayed. The writing is a little flowery but completely personal and you'll find yourself eager to try out recommendations.
Each place listed has a decent sized write up, where to get good food, prices and local activities. Definitely worth checking out.
