CD Description
Twenty-five-year-old Alison Krauss has singlehandedly revived popular interest in bluegrass, and SO LONG SO WRONG findsher own popularity at a peak: It follows up her 1995 collection NOW THAT I'VE FOUND YOU, which sold an astonishing 2 million copies. SO LONG SO WRONG sticks to the combination of contemporary bluegrass ballads and traditional songs that has proved so successful for Krauss. The slower songs provide ample room for her to display her quietly haunting singing. On songs like "It Doesn't Matter", "Find My Way Back to My Heart" and "Happiness" (co-written by Krauss' brother Viktor), Krauss keeps her clean, clear soprano deceptively simple and unadorned; she doesn't overpower the listener or rely on gimmicky vocal effects.
Union Station guitarist Dan Tyminski is an excellent bluegrass vocalist in his own right, andhe sings lead on three of the album's best cuts, including a fine version of the traditional song "I'll Remember You, Love, In My Prayers". The one instrumental, "Little Liza Jane", doesn't suffer from its lack of vocals. For just as much as the members of Union Station can sing, they all can play.Mandolinist Adam Steffey squeeze more notes into the 1 minute and 43 seconds of "Little Liza Jane" than most mandolinists could play in a song twice as long. And Krauss--who firstrose to prominence as a contest winning fiddler--more than holds her own.

A wonderful surprise.
This is a superb album. The combination of expert ensemble playing, good songs and the perfect voice of Alison Krause came as a glorious and welcome surprise.I bought this CD because I had heard AK sing and wanted to hear more.I didn't expect to be so impressed by both her and Union Station. There isn't a poor track on this album.I am a new convert to bluegrass.
BLUEGRASS YOU DON'T SNORT AT
Three men with dodgy facial hair, and one clean-shaven other join the ever-so attractive blonde lead female vocalist Alison Krauss (obviously clean-shaven!), feature on 'So Long So Wrong'. The first single from the album of the same name primes the listener for what is to come. Billed as bluegrass 'back to the future' the mix of folk and country output by the group is refreshingly different. Upbeat pacy numbers like the first, with the hallmark Union Station sound, are inter-mingled with thought provoking lyrics brought to life by Krauss.
My favourite slow numbers included 'Happiness', 'Looking In The Eyes of Love' and 'I Can Let Go Now'. Another feature of this album is that the vocals are shared/ alternated among the band. OK so none of the male vocals are that special but they do succeed in providing excellent harmonic support throughout and when substituted with the normal female vocal lead a pleasant change. None of these songs are likely to be smash singles on the US scene but all-in-all an interesting outing. Look forward to their next offering.
Her Last True Bluegrass album.
So Long So Wrong was released in 1995 and to date marked the last true bluegrass album for Alison.
The album contains her usual mix of traditional bluegrass songs, more contemporary numbers, an instrumental where the band just let rip, truly traditional numbers sung by the male members of the band, including Dan Tyminsky (O'Brother Where Art Thou), and the album rounds off with a gospel number.
The album does not contain a bad song and even today it stands up stongly against her more contemporary recent releases.
The stand out track for me has to be 'Find My Way Back To My Heart.' This was the first Alison Krauss song I ever heard and from that day forward I was converted.
If you don't have this album it is really worth parting some money for. It's beautiful and well worth every penny.
