Brilliant5
Absolutely brilliant! I just love every track on this CD set - great lyrics too.

TRULY TIMELESS!!! - and that VOICE................5

Back in 1982 I was working with an Asian manager and was, by now, familiar with their way of making music. As soon as I heard "Ever So Lonely" I was hooked for life..

I bought the 12" singles and loved the re-mixes on them. It was only fairly recently though that I bought the CD of "The Third Eye" and then this CD for the extra tracks.

The music can be truly uplifting and Sheila Chandra's voice sends shivers down my spine, being a lovely cross between the sometimes (to UK tastes) shrill Asian female singing style and ours. The "pop" style works very well on these tracks but probably couldn't continue for several albums as this was what made this album unique. I tried to list some favourite tracks but gave up as all of them have an individual charm all their own. However the two "main" singles ('Lonely in all its various mixes and Shakti) are at the top of the list, along with the haunting "And I You," which has given great comfort at certain times...

On an audiophile level, the recordings are, for the most part, slightly "creamy" and "close" sounding, which suits the music well (and the LP medium too). The instrumental version of "Ever So Lonely" has a bit more kick to it, which probably shows the later quality of mixing available...

I sincerely recommend this CD to everyone. Its beauty hasn't waned with the decades and it still comes out for a spin regularly...

P.S. Sheila Chandra has gone on to make some interesting solo records. I have only one "Weaving My Ancestors' Voices" and can recommend this wholeheartedly too...

EXCELLENT5
Back in 1982, Sheila Chandra had not long left Grange Hill when she hit the charts with the fantastic asian/pop tune "Ever So Lonely", with the group Monsoon. I absolutley loved that track but was unaware that Monsoon had released a complete album. But thanks to Amazon I now have that album and couldn't be happier. "Ever So Lonely" is the best track here but that doesn't mean the rest of the CD is weak, far from it, there isn't a dud track here. The CD hasn't dated like many 80's CD's, probably because Monsoon were producing a totally new style of music at the time, and there's been nothing quite like them since! This is album truly is a little known treasure that everyone should have in their collection. If you only know "Ever So Lonely" and liked it like I did, take a chance with the rest of the material here, it's awesome! Fantasic tunes like "Shakti", "And I You" and "You Can't Take Me With You" only make me wonder why this album wasn't massive. As a result of being so impressed with my purchase, I have gone on to Sheila Chandra's solo back catalogue, and I'm continued to be amazed by this talented lady. A stunning album from 1982 that once listened to, will make you wonder why you've waited over 20 years to buy it!
