Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Most everyone is familiar with the romantic piano-and-synthesizer washes of the surprise instrumental hit "Titles (Main Theme)" from this 1981 film soundtrack. What is surprising is there's a lot more going on with this score. Greek keyboardist/composer Vangelis had been recording albums for years before this soundtrack catapulted him into fame. He'd even been asked to join the prog rock band Yes at one point. (He was wise to pass on the offer.) Here you can hear the breadth of his talent at creating dreamy moods with synthesizers and classically inspired backdrops. Some of this music, however, doesn't quite hold its own without the visuals. Anyone looking for a stronger, more rock-like record by Vangelis should pick up Albedo 0.39. --Larry Crane

Customer Reviews

An appealing,melodic soundtrack,deserving the Oscar.4
The recording opens promisingly with the perhaps rather overly well-known 'Titles'(used in almost every television advertisement that involves people running) and flows into the other tracks well.Fans of the movie Chariots itself may be disappointed because quite a few pieces that were featured in the movie are not on the soundtrack. Those who want to enjoy the soundtrack as simply a piece of music rather than a compilation of every song in the film will be most satisfied.I think the highlight of the recording was the final "Chariots of Fire".A whimsical and freeform track with some dazzling piano sections.

Is This The Best Soundtrack Of All Time ?5
To me this is one of the greatest soundtracks ever released.

It rivals Easy Rider (The Byrds,Jimi Hendrix et al),The Good The Bad & The Ugly & The Mission, both by Ennio Morricone.

It's all truely evocative of the film from the Titles through to the long & sometimes thoughtful Chariots Of Fire.

However it's Five Circles which excells above all on this classic album.
