Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Upon its release in the mid-1990s, Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power proved that, even in an era of alternative rock supremacy, heavy metal fans were still a force to contend with. Blending eerie, surging grooves with thrashy speed metal riffs, Pantera created a bleak, oppressive disc that captured both ends of the speed spectrum without resorting to clichi, abrupt tempo shifts. Guitarist Diamond Darrell plays with as much crunch as the best Metallica, while vocalist Phil Anselmo screams loud enough to satisfy any GBH fan. Coupled with Vinnie Paul's insistent, double bass-drum onslaught, you're left with an album that'll shake the fillings out of even the strongest teeth. --Jon Wiederhorn

CD Description
With a rougher image and a more focused, aggressive sound than in their hairspray and spandex days on an independent label, Texas natives Pantera made a serious dent in the heavy music scene with the major label release of COWBOYS FROM HELL, which inspired radio play and MTV support. While Metallica and Megadeth were watering down their approach for a more mainstream sound, Pantera got harder with VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER.
From the moment vocalist Phil Anselmo screams his first "Revenge!" in "Mouth for War", the stage is set. Drummer Vinnie Paul showcases relentless technical prowess thrashing out complex double-bass drum patterns in "A New Level" and "By Demons be Driven", while guitarist Diamond Darrell's seemingly endless supply of hard-grooving, blues-inspired hooks are the heart of "No Good" and "Live in a Hole". In the emotional power-ballad "Hollow", the song's protagonist faces the heartache of having a friend trapped in a coma; and just as in the epic "Cemetery Gates" from COWBOYS FROM HELL, Anselmo continues to struggle with the consequences of fate and the will of the world.

Customer Reviews

This is THE album to buy.5
If you want raw, if you want angry and if you want searing riffs, drumming and kick ass lyrics, then this is the album to buy. Quite simply their best album and a must have for any discerning metal collection. Buy it, buy it, buy it.

Mind Blowing5
The album starts with Mouth for war, which is a fantastic song, with a strong first riff that just hits the spot. This is a musical work of art and a must have for any metal fan. A new level is brilliant, what more can i say. Walk has got to be one of my all time favourite songs, what a riff, what lyrics brilliant. Fucking hostile, the name says it all, want anger, got anger. This love starts brilliantly building into a climax not to dissapoint even the most enthusiastic fan. Rise... Loved it. No good was brilliant, and i would suggest listening to it LOUD.(as for the whole album really) Live in a Hole. Screams metal until your ears bleed. Regular people... Excellent By demons be driven... Beckon the call Beckon The Call Hollow... a final brilliant end to an alround brilliant album.

BUY THIS IF YOU DON'T ALREADY OWN IT. YOU CAN'T DO WITHOUT IT IF YOU LIKE PANTERA.

Grab friends,a beer, turn this up loud and wreck your house!!5
I remember buying this about 7 or 8 years ago when I first heard pantera. the power in the music here is amazing. This is true heavy metal. Forget the newcomers and goers like Slipknot, Papa roach and the rest that will last no more than like 5 years.

Pantera are around 13 years old, are here to stay and are getting better as time goes on. This was the second album with new vocalist Phil Anselmo. He really changed the way of pantera. Before 'cowboys from hell' they were a glam rock band. Phil seemed to change the whole scene and since then Pantera have become legends.

Vulgar has 11 tracks, all of which are great. Not one is poor. The well known are 'walk' 'this love' and 'f**king hostile'. If youve heard them anywhere and like them, you will enjoy the whole album. this in my opinion remains one of my favourite albums of all time.
I highly recommend this and all other albums. Buy a copy of this, turn it up real loud, grab a beer, your mates, and wreck your house. PanterA forever.
