CD Description
Although it still contained elements of their two precedingalbums' heavy metal garage rock, Alice Cooper's 1972 release SCHOOL'S OUT expanded on the more progressive material of '71s KILLER (i.e., its title track and "Halo of Flies"). Themajority of the songs were more sophisticated than the group's past work, with greater use of dynamics. The band was working under tight a deadline to complete the album, but it'scertainly no half-hearted rush job--it was their third powerful release in a row, and their first top 10 hit (peaking at #2 on the U.S. album charts).
The title song, a top tensingle, is a great, fist-pumping rock & roll anthem. By merging one of the most identifiable and memorable guitar riffsever (courtesy of the late Glen Buxton) with snide lyrics and a sing-along chorus, the song was a punk-metal masterpiece. While the album's remaining songs may not be as immediately familiar, many a gem can be found. "My Stars", "Luney Tune", "Alma Mater", and "Gutter Cat Vs. the Jets" are all underrated Cooper classics, the latter even containing snippets of musical themes from WEST SIDE STORY!

School's out Forever !!
This album ranks among Alices best. The title track is brilliant and totally timeless. The whole school concept works really well including the bits from west side story. Blue Turk works really well with that sleazy sax sound but the highlight for me is My Stars.... What a brilliant track one of his best ever from the piano intro to the fast rock guitar solo's and agressive singing to the lines taken from 'day the earth stood still' this track is just awesome. Why has he not performed it live since the billion dollar babies tour... oh well that's life and this excellent album gets five stars
Classic conceptional rock
This is a very fine revolutionary album. Known mostly for it's commercialised singalong title track, this album is a totally different beast altogether. This is a brilliant album form the BAND (not individual - that came latter) Alice Cooper. A unique blend of jazzy experimental rock combined with a theoretical satire. This album is very special, the title track is great, but don't expect the rest to be similar inferiors, this album is bizarre and truly very good. And funny.
Back to schooldays
I was at school when the song 'school's out' burst forth on the unsuspecting British charts. It made quite an impact. However it was a few years later before I got the album and it is nothing like what you would expect.'Luney tune' is a song about insanity/suicide which is far superior lyrically and musically to anything on 'from the inside'. 'Gutter cat v the jets' has an incredible drum and bass which turns into west side story and ends up in a 'streetfight'. 'Blue turk' is a beautiful jazzy blues tune with lovely lead guitar and sax. Although the lyrics are in contrast to the music and are typically gruesome.'My stars' - well I just don't know what this about but the music is about as good as Alice gets.'Public animal no.9' is a teenage rebel song done to a heavy motown beat. 'alma mater' is a great accoustic ode to their old school Cortez high. All these songs are great and have great diversity in style which may be not what some would like but to me makes a more interesting album. A lot of thought has gone into this and the rewards were worth it for the bands continuing success. However there is one problem with this cd and that is the last track. 'Grande finale' is a instrumental mish mash and I can only assume that ideas for songs were running a bit thin at the time or recording schedules forced a quick exit from the studio. It's listenable but loses the record a star.
