Editorial Reviews

CD Description
For its second major-label album (following THE LAND OF RAPE AND HONEY), Ministry combined elements of industrial, punkrock, heavy metal, and hard-beat techno. In doing so, the band forged the mold copied by countless other American bands--from Nine Inch Nails to Marilyn Manson.
MIND opens withthe one-two punch of "Thieves" and "Burning Inside". The first features a whip-fast chorus, punctuated by samples of the drill-like sound of an automatically rewinding camera, that sets off the obsessive anger of the verses. In the second, vocalist Al Jourgensen's slightly phased vocals cut across razor-sharp bursts of guitar and a massive drum sound. Both songs are fast, aggressive, and quite brilliant. "Cannibal Song" and "So What" sound like super-heavy outtakes from Public Image Limited's METAL BOX / SECOND EDITION. "Test" almostfalls into the trap of white boys playing at rap but is saved by its crunching, hypnotic guitar line and screeching feedback. The record's masterstroke is "Breathe". The pummeling, double-tracked percussion leads Jourgensen's commanding vocal delivery as the song spirals on and on, the fade-out suggesting that the song could have gone on forever. If only Ministry's children sounded as good as this. An American classic.

Ministrys Finest5
For me this is the the best ministry album. Its dark, melodic and still keeps the pure industrial sound. With the spat out anger of 'Burning inside' to the military stomp of 'Breathe'. You just cant fault its cross between the electronic drive of 'LORAH' and the distorted guitar riffs of the later 'Filth Pig'. If you like idea of Skinny Puppy jamming with the Butthole Surfers, you'll really like this

Excellent...an industrial classic5
1989 was a good year for metal. Carcass' sublime "Symphonies Of Sickness", Godflesh's inspirational "Streetcleaner", and Nine Inch Nails' debut, "Pretty Hate Machine", were all released in that year. Also in 1989, Ministry released this absolutely brilliant album. I remember first hearing this album in 1994 and sounding impressed, but whilst much 90s metal has not survived the test of time, this album has. It sounds even better than when I first heard it. "Thieves" is just one of those songs you have to play in your car when driving at full speed. Excellent samples from "Full Metal Jacket" too. "Burning Inside" is probably the album's highlight. The other seven tracks are also of a high standard. Excellent, a hugely underrated album.

Top Ministry; top industrial5
Ministry are one of the best industrial bands ever, and this (in my opinion) is their best album, so this has got to be essential for anyone with any interest in industrial. In fact, this is just a pretty essential album. Listen to this and you can see where a lot of todays bands are coming from. In fact, even though this album was made as long ago as 1989, one track has an MC on it, (but don't let that put you off). Most Ministry albums have at least a couple of tracks I usualy skip (although they're all great), but not this one. Definately a must.
