Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Nimrod came along two years after 1995's Insomniac and was the first indication of Green Day's willingness to stretch the boundaries of punk rock. The fullness of the record is first hinted at on "Hitchin' a Ride", which starts out chug-a-lugging and then breaks into a raging rocker. "Redundant" is accented with some psyched-out guitar work and has Billie Joe Armstrong singing a good deal more than usual. The wonderful "Platypus (I Hate You)" speed-rocks with abandon and recalls the early days of L.A. punk (a little Dickies here, a little Descendents there). The biting "Take it Back" is a snarling throwback to hard punk, and "Prosthetic Head" is an infectious ditty that counts among the very best on the album. Most surprising is "Last Ride In", an instrumental nod to the sensual surf-and-sun life. Of course, the crown jewel of the collection is the sentimental, acoustic "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)", which seemed nearly inescapable when it was released. Beyond these standouts, even the "usual" Green Day fare here has punch. --Lorry Fleming

CD Description
Green Day's infectious brand of thrashy power-pop is full of references to the generation of punk which preceded them, with adenoidal vocals spinning tales of youthful angst against a backdrop of hard, fast riffs. The difference, of course, is that Green Day is having more fun than the Buzzcocks would ever have admitted to. NIMROD catches the band updating their sound while holding onto the speed and recklessness that made their previous albums so exciting.
Touches like the atmospheric, flanged guitars of "Redundant" and the violin on "Hitchin' A Ride" and "Last Ride In", (courtesy of ThatDog's Petra Haden) help to take the band in a new, more serious direction. Lest anyone fear that this expansion signalsself-indulgence, the tight harmonies of "Scattered" and breakneck pace of "Platypus (I Hate You)" prove that, unlike most angry young men (especially those that happen to be millionaire celebrities), they've managed to hold on to every bitof the energy and rage that propelled them in the first place.

Great Music from One of the Best...5
It is such a shame to see a great band like Green Day being the target of so much negative criticism (or it seems that way here in the States). Here is a band who can make great music, are incredibly impressive when performing live, and they never seem to put out an album with the sole purpose of being popular or on TV so much. (If that were the case, they would release more albums at a time.) Green Day is one of my all time favourites and they continue to do nothing but impress me. "Nimrod" is an excellent album with a ton of great songs.

You can see how much the band has matured and how they have grown musically. They are always willing to try new things, which is something you really see lacking in some of these newer punk or alternative bands. The guitar playing is great, the drumming is always impressive, and the singing and lyrics are reflections of top-notch talent.

EVERY song on this album is great, but here are some of my favourites: hitchin' a ride, the grouch, nice guys finish last, worry rock, scattered, king for a day, walking alone, prosthetic head, and time of your life. (Seeing the song "king for a day" performed live really enriches the song and makes you appreciate it more, which is why it is one of my favourites.)

Green Day is a fabulous band who has never disappointed me once. I just think they got popular too quick and then people started burning out on them. It is a shame, because they are a great band who can play some amazing music. If you love to hear outstanding music from an exceptional band, Green Day's "Nimrod" might be the CD for you. Definitely worth checking out!

Nimrod - A New Hope5
I was first introduced to GreenDay with the album Warning. I, unlike many GreenDay fans, thought the album was fantastic. This was probably more to do with the fact that I had never heard them before than anything else. Anyway, after liking Warning so much I decided to buy their back catalogue. Nimrod was the first album I bought and boy was I impressed!!! I loved Nimrod so much! It is so different to Warning yet it just completely blew my mind. I delved deeper and bought Dookie and Kerplunk. Ever since that first song on Warning I have been a GreenDay fan. Nimrod was kind of the official starting point for me because it turned out to be my favourite until American Idiot came out earlier this year and I have to admit, I cannot fault that album. It plays in my car, my home, at work, everywhere! I think Nimrod would definately be a good start to the GreenDay catalogue.

Another brilliant Green Day album5
I bought this album after American Idiot, Superhits and Dookie to fill up my Green Day collection, and i've got to say it stands out as one of their best. It blends angry punk, happy punk, ballads and instrumental classics. The stand out out tracks to me are Nice Guys Finish Last (fantastic rocking, fast track), The Grouch (offensive and angry - brilliant), All The Time (catchy tune), Reject (classic Green Day), King For A Day (Ace ska-ish song, trumpets and everything) and Prosthetic Head is an excellent way of finishing the album off, great song.

I would this album takes a happier directive than the darker, moodier 'Insomniac' but excellent all the same. Since this one i've bought all the Green Day albums (bar Kerplunk and 1,039.....Slappy Hours) and the latest singles. I'm now a fan. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
