CD Description
In 1984, Tina Turner mounted one of the greatest comebacks in music history. Coming after many years without a hit, PRIVATE DANCER proved to be a monster seller for Turner, spawning three smash singles. At 45 years old, Turner was a superstar-again.
PRIVATE DANCER is the strongest album of Turner's career. The infectious "What's Love Got to Do With it" became an MTV staple. The title track, written by Mark Knopfler, features Jeff Beck on guitar. Beck truly shines on the rockin' "Steel Claw", where he delivers a blistering solo. Turner lends her distinctive, throaty vocals to Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" and David Bowie's "1984". Bonus tracks abound on this deluxe reissue. The rocker "I Wrote a Letter" finds Turner proclaiming that her lover can "make a white girl sing the blues". "Rock N Roll Widow" is a tender tale of awife left lonely while her musician husband is on the road."Don't Rush the Good Things" is an up-tempo number that stresses the importance of enjoying life. "When I Was Young" isa non-repentant look back on Turner's wild years. PRIVATE DANCER is a fantastic effort by one of the premier female rockers.

EXTENDED CLASSIC5
Tina Turner’s classic album from 1984 has been substantially enhanced with the addition of seven tracks, including wonderful extended versions of What’s Love Gotta Do With It, Better Be Good To Me and I Can’t Stand The Rain. This makes Private Dancer even more of an essential album as it remains Turner’s masterpiece from the eighties, an album of brilliant material exquisitely interpreted. It’s a concept album loosely based on a stripper’s life, a bit like Donna Summer’s Bad Girls from 1979 and it amply showcases Tina Turner’s multifaceted talents. The bitter What’s Love Got To Do With It and the melancholy title track, both passionate ballads, were massive hits. Better Be Good To Me and Steel Claw are scorching rockers while she really adds a new dimension to her covers of Help and Let’s Stay Together, another top 10 hit. I love Tina’s interpretation of the Anne Peebles song I Can’t Stand The Rain which was also a hit for Eruption way back in 1978. Private Dancer is a triumph of epic proportions, not only Turner’s comeback album but a timeless masterpiece of exceptional songs infused with enough raunch to please her hardcore fans from the early days and enough pop appeal for the mainstream. Never before had her voice been wrapped around such quality but accessible and melodic material as on Private Dancer, making for a consistently enjoyable album with broad appeal. This reissue with the extra tracks is superb value for money – get it!

This is surely one of Tina's best albums to-date. All 80's classics, but still sounding as good today as back then. What a true star she is! A must for all TT fans.

Tina Turner at her best......5
This is a mixture of songs written by admirers, and others that were already well known. It's the Queen of raunchiness herself and her unmistakable delivery that make this album what it is.
I'm not a massive Tina Turner fan..... probobly because for me her later releases didn't push her to the dizzy heights of this masterpiece.
