Product Description

THE WHOLE STORY is a sampler of the early tracks that show the promise of Kate Bush, who never contented herself as an ordinary singer/songwriter. The always-experimental Bush hada knack for populating her songs with peculiar characters. There's Catherine of "Wuthering Heights"; there's Peter Reich of "Cloudbusting" (an extraordinary track in every way); there's the mother in the lilting "Army Dreamers"; and there's also the womb-confined baby who documents a nuclear blast in the moving "Breathing".
Bush also looks to eclectic sources for inspiration. "The Dreaming" was inspired by Rolf Harris's "Sun Arise" and the Aboriginal song "Aeroplanes, Aeroplanes". "Hounds of Love" took its inspiration from the film "Night of the Demon". This compilation covers the first decade of Kate Bush's career (until 1986) and is a great place for discovering her myriad talents. Many have followed in her footsteps, but few have matched her.

Pretty Good Album!3
OK, Kate Bush has never really been one of my favorite singers and her latest album is just so bad but "The Whole Story" is a fine collection of her work and i must admitt, it is worth a place in a CD collection. The best songs here are, "The Man With The Child In His Eyes", "Hounds Of Love", "Running Up That Hill" and "Babooshka".
While, I don't believe that this album is one that i could play again and again, it's worth the occasional listen with the skipping of a few tracks. Of course, if your a big Kate fan that likes the songs i consider to be poor - you'll get even more enjoyment from it.

One of the Greatest Singers EVER !!!5
The incredibly beautiful Kate Bush, is without a doubt one of the MOST talented female singers ever.

A real hero of mine, along with the outstanding Aretha Franklin. Kate Bush is absolutely unique, stunningly beautiful, with a breathtaking voice. The multi-talented Kate, sings, writes, plays so many instruments, and dances so gracefully.

Every song on this album will rip through your heart and move you.

If I could give this album 10 stars I would.

Thank you Kate Bush for the amazing music, your stunning voice, and the messages within your songs.

I dedicate this album to GC - A very special person I once loved.

Not the whole story5
This album was issued in 1986. 21 years later it remains the only Kate Bush compilation in existence. Even in 1986 it wasn't complete - only 12 of Kate's 17 singles up until that point are on here (18 if you count the duet with Peter Gabriel). There have been three studio albums since, but still no revised greatest hits despite rumours.

However, the big hits are all here. Wuthering Heights, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Babooshka, Sat In Your Lap and Running Up That Hill plus many more. The tracks are not in chronological order so it can hardly tell a story, but the music is beyond criticism.

Wuthering Heights is a 1986 re-recording to show how Kate's voice had changed in the nine years since the original (the backing track has been remixed very slightly). If you want the version that was No. 1 in 1978, you'd still need to get The Kick Inside album.

The booklet gives release dates and chart positions, and is very tastefully produced.

An essential album that may encourage you to explore Kate's work further.
