BEST OF 70's REED
This is a good starting point for anyone wishing to investigate Lou Reed's career. It includes his early hit Walk On The Wild Side plus mesmerizing versions of Sweet Jane and White Light/White Heat and the tracks come from albums as diverse as Berlin, Transformer, Sally Can't Dance and Coney Island Baby. It's a great selection of songs, my favourites being Satellite Of Love (why wasn't this one a huge hit single?), the campy New York Telephone Conversation and the aforementioned. Melodic, acidic and original, this is the very best of early Lou Reed.
Bold and imaginative collection of Reed's finest
It's a pity this recording as a CD is not more widely available : it's a superb and varied collection of Reed's material with some interesting, bold and creative choices. Some may question why, for example, Perfect Day's been left off - but the inclusion of the beautifully simple 'I love you', 'Coney Island Baby' and 'Sally can't Dance' soon earn the compilers our forgiveness. If you want to fully appreciate the depths of this man's talents & versatility, then definitely give it a try. It's the best compilation out there.
