Average customer review:Product Description
ARETHA ARRIVES followed up Aretha Franklin's smash Atlanticdebut, I NEVER LOVED A MAN THE WAY I LOVE YOU, and featuresa similar cast of Muscle Shoals musicians, with whom she had an unmistakable chemistry. Recorded in three days with producer Jerry Wexler, ARETHA ARRIVES features an eclectic cross-section of covers, putting the Queen of Soul's spin on songs by the likes of ? & the Mysterians, the Rolling Stones, Ray Price and Frank Sinatra. Almost as impressive as her pure, gospel-flavoured vocals was Franklin's piano, which she played, despite a broken elbow, on seven of 11 tracks.

Her 2nd for Atlantic
Aretha Franklin had hit the big time with her first album for Atlantic, whose A&R man Jerry Wexler had teamed her with the famed Muscle Shoals rhythm section and producer Tom Dowd. The result was the 1967 landmark album, "I Never Loved a Man The Way I Love You", defining Aretha as the Queen of Soul.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it seems to be the motto for this, her 2nd album, also recorded in 1967. The same team are assembled in support, the mood is soulful, and Aretha once again demonstrates her ability to cover any song and make it her own, taking on Sinatra and the Stones and finding something new.
Astonishingly, there would be a third album recorded in 1967, "Lady Soul", which contained "Chain Of Fools" and "Natural Woman", and there is the reason "Aretha Arrives" is regarded as one of the lesser Atlantic albums - there was no real blockbuster on the album. But, whatever, the gorgeous "Never Let Me Go" demands attention, as does "Ain't Nobody"
So not an absolute essential, but you should have it to complete your collection if you are an Aretha fan.
Perfect listening
Just fantastic, even the covers are great and original. In the height of the sixties she shows her all and it still remains today.A real sing-a-long to album, u must have this in your collection.
