Amazing
Anybody who is a fan of heavy blues rock MUST get this cd. Consisting of 2 Vanilla Fudge members (Carmine Appice on drums and Tim Bogart on bass), David McCarthy on guitar and one of my favourite frontmen of all time - Rusty Day, this band truly rocks. There is generally a high, heavy tempo throughout briefly brought down by songs like alaska, which has a softer blues feel, and the slightly psychedelic instrumental 'Song For Aries' which shows a softer side to the band. Only one bad song on this album and that's "Rumblin Man" which is pretty much noise throughout. Maybe the quality of this song is enhanced with the assistance of certain substances but as im only 16 i wouldn't really know...
one more nice good addition is the booklet which is a mini-biography on the band and tells of Rusty Day's grizzly and unfortunate end... RIP.
Overall - Mindblowing.
I highly HIGHLY recommend it!
Very worthy addition to any collection
I came across this band many years ago in my early twenties. I'd been playing Bass guitar in a couple of pub bands and listening to rock artists like Hendrix, Cream, Zeppelin, Purple and so on, and, admireing their respective Bassists. Someone lent me the first three Cactus albums on vinyl to listen to. I'd never been aware of them collectively but when I heard the names of the band members there were links to other bands involving certain members,ie, Jeff Beck, Vanilla Fudge and Rod Stewart that I was aware of.
I listened to the albums and I remember being blown away by the sheer power and presence of this band. Great guitar, great vocals, great drumming and as for the bass - wow !I couldn't believe how I'd not come across this band before.
Many years further down the line and trying to replace old recordings form the music collection onto C.D. I suddenly remembered my first impressions of this great little band and thought "Yes, this is a must have." And very glad I was to get this. Fantastic collection of songs. I don't believe this band ever received their full recognition to the music business that they really deserved.
Maybe it was just a stepping stone to other things? Maybe I've led too much of a sheltered life? Buy this and you should not be dissapointed.
