Editorial Reviews
CD Description
With a big push from industry mogul Puff Daddy (who helped out with writing and producing the album, in addition to putting it out on his Bad Boy label), 112's debut became a romantic soul hit upon its release in 1996. A quartet that specialize in close harmonies and a light, hip-hop-influenced urban contemporary sound, 112 bear more than a passing resemblance to Boyz II Men, but this detracted from neither their obvious talents nor their record sales.
The group's self-titled first effort is arguably its best. From the cover imageof a dapper-looking foursome in white suits to the love-themed slow jams that fill the disc, 112's debut epitomizes theclean, respectable boy group. "Only You", the album's lead-off single, with its addictive, low-end groove, remains a highlight.
Customer Reviews
You've Never Heard of 112?
You have probably never heard of 112. They're the 4 guys who sang on Puffy's I'll Be Missing You. This album is a true classic, with classic Puff Daddy production at his peak. The dancefloor anthem Only You is known by everyone, but you just don't know who sang it. The remix features the late Notorious BIG and also Ma$E. Other standout tracks are Cupid, with it's infectious hand clapping and dreamy melodies. Call My Name, You Can Come See Me and my favourite, Just Awhile. The album features stars such as Faith Evans and the Lost Boyz' Mr. Cheeks. I beg You to recognise the talent of 112. The album is full of upbeat R&B and Ballad classics. These guys can sing for real! You must treat yourself to it.
Truely A Classic.
If your a new 112 fan & don't know which album to pick up first, then for the cheap prices i've seen on amazon this will be the best money you've spent in your life.
The album is produced perfectly, the cowbells, the handclapping, the soft pads & heavy use of piano sampling really set's a mid 80's feel to the album, almost like an underground jazz club.
The foursome of 112 utilise their voices to execute each track perfectly. Slim is usually in the limelight of each song while the others harmonic voices can be heard in the background adlibbing & snatching a rare verse now & again.
Tracks like call my name, only you, now that we're done & cupid will remain as a piccacle example for all aspiring singers & groups everywhere for years to come.
Diddy really has produced a gem that will carry the torch for this genre of music for as long as music exists.
