Editorial Reviews
From Amazon.com
The mannered vocal style that has always been the most off-putting element of Ani DiFranco's music is still present on this two-disc live set, but for some reason it doesn't matter anymore. Maybe it's the way you can hear DiFranco using her breaths to accent a rhythm section that's downright merciless with its circling, pulsing, scary grooves. Or maybe it's the way, with an audience screaming, she pours heart and soul into "Unforgettable Face" and the story song "Gravel." Whatever, Living in Clip is the album where DiFranco begins to deserve her hype. And "Amazing Grace," backed by the Buffalo Philharmonic, is where she surpasses it. --David Cantwell
Customer Reviews
ani the queen of folk
Folk music is all about live. And ani proves this with this amazing album: not only does this prove her genius both vocally and on the guitar, it also proves how much she loves being live and interacting with the audience. Her bassist and drumer, Sara and Andy, are also superb. And also, the CD comes with the cutest photo album, full of pictures of ani with the band and people from righteous babe, her own record company. Just buy it OK, you WON'T regret it
So much classic Ani in one album!
One album, two discs, hours of immensely quotable Ani. What's not to like?
For anyone new to the Difranco experience, I'd recommend you try either her self-titled debut first (for eloquent, ballsy, politically-aware girl n' guitar folk), or 'Dilate' (for a darker, more emotionally-tortured journey).
Anyone familiar with Ani's music will doubtless know, love and already have most/all of the songs on the tracklisting above. So why get this? Maybe for inspired reworkings of old classics ('Every State Line'). Maybe for the sheer energy and exuberance of Ani onstage, sharing her music with her fans ('In Or Out'). Maybe for the laugh-out-loud-funny between-tracks banter (the chalk outlines of bodies before 'Out of Habit', the Anne Frank story after 'Overlap'). There's so much here... just buy it!
A Definitive Ani Collection
Ani's music is all about Live. This collection is a superb rendition of her work, and also serves as a delicious taster for buying earlier albums.
If you're looking for a first Ani album to try, then buy this. Worth every penny!
