Product Description

Recorded on the Japanese tour of 1972, Deep Purple created the most effortless of great live albums. Labouring under the Machine Head tour and with inter-band relationships that saw both Gillan and Glover feuding with the sometimes difficult Blackmore and quitting the band early the following year, the record, for its part, does not suffer from the personnel inconsistencies, the band playing what would become, in retrospect, a greatest hits set. The consistency of the material - 'Child In Time', 'Strange Kind Of Woman', 'Space Truckin'' - was, and still is, astounding, matched only by the arch standards of Purple's live performance.

Customer Reviews

Listen Again5
Is Great Expectations listening to the same CD as everyone else that has rightly given this CD 5 stars - he is correct in that you had to be there - and I was on many occasions and then later the inferior White Snake & Rainbow -as stated by many this is arguably the best live recording ever made - no contest as far as I'm concerned.- the interplay between Lord & Blackmore - and the pulsating rhythm section is incredible! Others can only aspire!

The BEST live album ever.5
This was the first ever Deep Purple album that I heard, it was loaned to me on cassette which I played on a pretty crappy portable mono cassette player and even then it rocked. I've since bought around 50 LPs & CDs so who said home taping was killing music? This CD version is a real steal at the price because not only does it have the full concert it also has the encores. OK so it wasn't all recorded from one concert but the best bits from 3 different ones, but if you listen to the Live in Japan 3 CD set you will realise what a difficult job they had in picking the best performances. The performances here really are outstanding with the whole band playing as well as they ever did. If you only ever buy one Deep Purple CD this should be it.

Best Music Performance of All Time5
I grew up with the Deep Purple sound and - although I am only 19 years old - for me there is no band that even comes close to the musical brilliance of the MkII line-up.

Now when one talks about timeless music, you always hear names such as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven - these composed their music, but they were never put to the test of performing it on the spot, the night after travelling half-way around the world. Deep Purple did exactly that - and delivered the best piece of music performance of all time. It would be pointless to explain this to a person whose extent of musical understanding doesn't exceed the likes of Arctic Monkeys or Muse. Made in Japan wants to be listened to, like all great pieces of music. Only then you will see the artistic brilliance and the technical perfection, which makes this album stand out from anything that has been recorded since.
