ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS I'VE HEARD IN MY LIFE
This is Stanton Moore's debut solo album, probably one of the world's top drummers. He used to play with Galactic, and is the drummer in Garage a Trois. This album is funk, but as he himself says, extra-heavy funk. This means very fast beats and an amazing saxo by Charlie Hunter. It's like one step further from the classics: Jimmy McGriff, Richard "Groove" Holmes... Very modern funk excellently played, this album is a must buy for absolutely everybody, it doesn't matter if you like funk or not, I promise you will love this album. I believe this is one of those rare albums that you instantly like, because it's easy to like, but you never get tired of it, and each time you hear it you find something new and amazing, each song deserves five stars. Really, I don't know what else to say, this is a masterpiece, buy it, you won't regret it.
Seriously Funky
I found my way to Stanton Moore through Charlie Hunter, as there are one or two free tracks on the Charlie Hunter website, where Stanton is doing the drumming. I listen to a lot of jazz, but was looking for something different with saxophones, which wasn't smooth jazz. Something that non Jazz lovers could get down to and something that could be put on to party to. As the previous reviewer says, this is one seriously funky album, but Charlie Hunter doesn't play sax. He plays the guitar/bass hybrid and there's a full horn section including one of my favourite players - Skerik (funking, honking and general horn madness)
* Stanton Moore - drums, percussion
* Charlie Hunter - eight string guitar
* Skerik - saxophonics, kookification
* Ben Ellman - tenor saxophone
* Matt Perrine - sousaphone
* Brent Rose - tenor and soprano saxophone
* Brian Seeger - guitar
What makes this album so incredible is the fact that it is a fun, funk album with tracks that make you want to put them on repeat. Imagine this: if you were seeing this live, people would already be dancing on the tables after the first track "Tchfunkta". I got this album from emusic.com, but it is so damn good, I need to get the CD for the best possible audio quality to blast it out and dust off my musical cobwebs from time to time. If you can, get a copy. Get one now
