From-the-heart Punk with social conscience - angry but good
A fine collection from Mensi and the boys which takes the listener (well me anyway) back to a wild and mis-spent youth full of joy and full of anger. The whole Upstarts spectrum is here -fast/slow/pure punk and reggae based progressive stuff - they were never the most popular nor were they the best band around but this collection does prove what I remember - the Upstarts were clever, socially aware, full of power, full of anger and able to throw it all together and come up with some pretty good tunes.
underrated punk
this album includes a lot of the angelic upstarts finest moments, though you should buyall their lp's for the complete picture.morrissey is a big fan,as is ian brown.in many ways the upstarts were better than the clash and the sex pistols and they had a fine understanding of how to combine punk power witha great ear for catchy melodies.one of this countries finest ever bands in my opinion and a band who are so superior(but certainly not richer)than pseudo punks like green day, offspring, rancid and the rest of that sorry crew of complete phonies.
