Byrdsy 80's album from the Scream Team
I've read a few Bobby Gillespie interviews, and heard him mention some of the Scream's 60's influences like The Byrds and Love, and you can hear them all over this album. It's not at all like any of their later stuff (maybe bits of Screamadelica), but as far from Xtrmntr or the Southern strutt of of 'Give Out, But Don't Give Up' as you can imagine. A great collection of well crafted indie pop songs. I've found my summer album for 2006 (well, until Riot City Blues comes out in June. C'MON!)
Jingle Jangle
It's Primal Scream, but not as we know it.
Anyone unfamilar with this Epoch in Scream history will be mightilly surprised to hear this jangly Guitar album. Hear this you must though, a classic of Mid 80's "C86" esque albums, the album is 10 tracks 3 minute pop jems with (making it rather short), yes, Jangly Guitars and sweet trippy melodies.
This was a Massive influence on, though massivly inferior to "the Stone Roses".
If you like the Roses, or are a serious scream fan, youll love this. I love this.
PS If you can, then you absolutley MUST check out Primal Screams debut single "Crystal Crescent" and its B-side "Velocity Girl", two unconditiol Indie Pop Classics.
Jangly guitars were all the rage back then.![]()
In an age when music was beginning to loose credibility, Primal Scream helped put musicians who played what they wanted (not meaningless, commercial rubbish) back on the map. They have and always will be a band that isn't slave to the evil marketing man. And look how they have progressed. This album shows how they were, and makes you think how well they have moved with the times and the ignored the whims of modern music. Much like the self titled Primal Scream SFG has many guitars, great riffs and it makes you feel good. What more is their to say?
