Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Featuring 13 classic ABBA hits recorded at London's WembleyArena in 1979 and two more ("Fernando", "Money Money Money") from the 1977 Australian tour documented in ABBA: The Movie, ABBA LIVE was released in 1986, five years after the Swedish supergroup's break-up. Given the time frame, the track listing is top-heavy with mid-period (1976-'79) classics, with only 1974's "Waterloo" dating from the group's early bubblegum years.
The most obscure songs included here are the relatively small hits "On and On and On" and "Two for the Price of One" and Bjorn's vocal spotlight "Does Your Mother Know?" Arrangements and vocals stay close to the studio versions but avoid the pitfall of exact replication. The crowds are wildly enthusiastic but not intrusive. The nicely designedpackage includes many excellent late-'70s photos of the group.

A Must for true ABBA Fans !!!5
ABBA never completely recognised their talent for live music, when asked in interviews if they enjoyed touring, they always favoured the studio. This album is a unique collection of hits taken from 2 of their most popular and sucsessful tours of all time & 1 outstanding TV Appearence:
*Austrailia (Perth) 1977
*England (Wembly) 1979
*Dick Cavett meets ABBA (1981)

The Stand out tracks on this album are without a doubt:
Fernando
Dancing queen
Gimme Gimme Gimme
Waterloo

The production on this album is electric, and has the ability to have you dancing round your room, listening to it!!

A must for all ABBA fans!!!

ABBA Live-not that thrilling without picture4
Well, I have heard many people bash this album and I'm still not sure why. My opinion is that this album was produced in a rush like many useless ABBA compilations. It really doesn't work like the video footage of their concerts and it lacks some of their best live songs like Summer Night City with a great finale (I think you can see that on ABBA Live on VHS) and Hole In Your Soul. These live tracks are often uninvolving and just sound like bad and too accurate versions of their studio recordings. It really doesn't lift you up or anything, but I give it 4 stars because of the superb audio quality and for the fact this is the only official live ABBA album.
To sum it up, ABBA sounded much better live than this CD suggests...

Demonstrates how dependent Abba were on the recording studio2
I still can't decide how good Abba's tunes were. They certainly wrote some catchy numbers, but they were no Beatles. As for this live album, it is without merit. All the definitive versions of Abba's songs are on ... erm ... the 2CD 'Definitive Collection'.

Avoid this unless you already have every other official Abba album.
