pure rock.
OK, this cd has just marked it's 21st Birthday, quite unbelivably. To this day this cd stands tall as a masterpiece and was one of the biggest selling cds of 1987. 5 top singles included here Heart and Soul, China In Your Hand, Valentine, Sex Talk and I Will Be With You - all smacked into the Top 20. Carol Decker has a fantastic voice, well controlled and very very strong, and can hold it in concert - i saw her in 1988 as part of the fifth tour, and boy did she rock!! The version of Thank You For Goodbye, here is in ballad form and even though a classic, if you not heard the version called Thank You For Goodbye Rides Again, try to check it out. This cd is full of goodies, my 2 favourites which didnt get single releases were Bridge of Spies and the pure funky rock of Monkey House, they were huge on the live circuit as was the rock of You Give Up, the lightest track here is Friends Like These, but is still well controlled and well placed on the cd moving it from mid rock to pure rock, banging off with Sex Talk which got a single release as a live version and originally called Intimate Strangers. Unfortunately T'Pau never managed to match the success of Bridge of Spies, but the follow up cd Rage, was going to be underrated and unfairly compared to this release no matter what - but if Takin' Time Out came out as a single things have might of been a tad different and T'Pau would have had a 2nd chart topper.
Great 80's rock
I really do love this album. Whether it be power ballad's China In Your Hand or the title track, straight forward rock with sex talk and monkey house, the album just shines! heart and soul is another stand out. get it if you see it!
No fault with this one!
Sounds just as good as the original vinyl... or perhaps a bit crisper, making the 'raw edges' of the recording (slight variations in rhythm, the occasional off note) seem a bit more noticeable?... but maybe I just overlooked them in the enthusiasm of my youth! All the same, I still love the energy, honesty & richness of the sound/songs. "Don't push too hard, your dreams are china in your hands..." The best. Great to have a digital copy.
