CD Description
The thunderous drumbeats kicking off "Be My Baby" form a rock archetype every bit as powerful as Keith Richards' guitarriff in "Satisfaction" or the final chord of "A Day in the Life". And it's only the beginning: From that totemic opening to Ronnie Spector's final vocal wail over the fade two minutes and 40 seconds later, "Be My Baby" is dead-on perfect, certainly Phil Spector's masterpiece and one of the greatestrock & roll singles ever. At heart, it's just one of dozensof sweet little teen love songs by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, but Phil Spector's Technicolour production opens up the song; the layers of percussion, strings, and pianos takeSpector's early arrangements for the Drifters to their logical conclusions. Yet the Ronettes' girlish vocals are somehow never overpowered by the grandeur of their setting. THE BEST OF THE RONETTES is a perfect career overview.
Customer Reviews
the best pop group ever ..
this is my type of music, and takes me back to the swinging sixties..be my baby is arguably the greatest single ever released, and nothing before or since has equalled phil spectors wall of sound, that only he could create...un missable for pop fans of all generations ...
Still The Fabulous Ronettes
Ronnie Spector should have been given the same encouragment as Tina Turner and Cher, She has the best voice in the business and thankgoodness Creation Records is going to record her New LP. This is a classic CD and should be in evryone's collection , I have been lucky to meet her three times and have quite few autographs and original recordings. BUY NOW NOT TO BE MISSED.
