Customer Reviews
Can't hear it
Tried to listen to the samples on Amaozn and can't hear anytyhing. I heard the singer on Blue Lines, and she has a fantastic voice, reminiscent of Randy Crawford. If she hs the right songs and arrangements I would expect this to be a very good album.
Vocal Power
This album was originally released in 1993 and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Shara is a much under rated performer whose excellent vocal delivery makes her one of the great British female singers of the 1990's. She is best known as the featured singer on the first Massive Attack album Blue Lines including the hit singles Unfinished sympathy and Safe from harm. Who can forget that video with her walking down an American street in one continous camera shot?
What Silence Knows was her debut solo album and it produced four Top 40 hits. There is great variety on this album with One Goodbye in Ten providing thought provoking lyrics and a Motown type musical arrangement, Inside Out is a gentle acoustic type ballad of tremendous quality, on Down that Road Shara's voice reminds me of Aretha Franklin and Uptight is a perfect soul pop confection which got into the top twenty in early 1994.
Shara should have been a bigger star than she was but her sound was probably too classy for the mass market and too cleanly produced for the r n b market.
If you want to hear an excellent voice buy this cd.
