Customer Reviews
'Lionel's Last Album With The Group'
'In The Pocket' was originally released in 1981 and was the last Commodores album to feature Lionel Richie. It's a solid set and features the top ten U.S R&B hits ' Lady (You Bring Me Up)' and 'Oh No' as well as the last Commodores single to feature Richie's lead vocals 'Why You Wanna Try Me'. None of the aforementioned tracks did a lot here in the U.K bar 'Lady' which made the lower reaches of the chart. It's a bright, funky, uptempo start to an album short on tracks but high in quality. 'Oh No' and 'Lucy' are both typical Richie ballads and will surely delight his fan base, while Walter Orange (who took over main lead vocals when Richie left) proves himself an able songwriter contributing the excellent 'Easy' like 'This Love'. 'Saturday Night' features a great vocal also and is an odd but likeable mid tempo track and 'Keep On Taking Me Higher' and 'Why You Wanna Try Me' are funkier and uptempo. 'Been Loving You' is perhaps the weakest song here but it would be unfair to describe it as a filler.
So then, a solid Commodores album but not quite a classic one.
