Buy it Dig it5
The Jam were without doubt one of the best if not the best band I have ever seen live. They played with an intensity which was by turns enthralling and shocking. I saw them live 5 times and I always came out the concert buzzing even when I was assaulted by a group of idiots (I left 2 worse off than me!) who were groping my girlfriend.

The music is played louder and badder than you will hear on the Jam's albums and this is evident in tracks such "Start" "Set the house ablaze" "Going Underground" and "Private Hell" but I like all the tracks on this album and it is refreshing that some of the tracks are not just single releases but in a way representative of the Jam as an albums band.

Great album and if I remember what those other 2 idiots look like they will get it one day even if we are all using Zimmer frames!

A solid bond with the fans4
To the reviewer who didn't get to see The Jam live, you are unfortunate, they were great ! This album was criticised by many upon its release for failing to cash in on the many hit singles the group had and including mainly live versions of album track. Did we as fans, care ? Did we heck as like ! It was the album tracks we wanted. These were for us the essence of a Jam show - classics like "To Be Someone", "All Mod Cons" and the underrated, vitriolic, pot boiling "Set The House Ablaze", all delivered with mastery by the peerless triumvirate of Weller, Foxton and Buckler.

This album is not culled from one particular show, it follows The Jam live from 1977 to 1982 and leaves one still amazed at just how competent they were for three lads barely out of school at the beginning. "Standards" is a welcome inclusion and "Big Bird" is, as mentioned elsewhere, a rarity unavailable anywhere eles.
