Customer Reviews
The late, great Shawn Lane's masterpeice.
Shawn Lane sadly left this Earth in September 2003. Many felt that he never fully fulfilled his promise. But Shawn was never just another mega talented guitarist.
Technically he was probably at the very top of his craft. Guthrie Govan wrote shortly after his death that he had developed his craft on the instrument to such a high level that nothing was beyond him. I would have to agree.
Powers of Ten was my first introduction to the world of Shawn Lane and it changed what I thought was possible with the electric guitar. Here was a man who could play some of the fastest licks ever committed to record, yet what he had compared to 99.9% of his peers is the ability to say something with speed. He also used speed as a tool. His playing was always melodic, expressive and brilliantly orchestrated.
From the rock ballad of Get You Back, to the incredible Latin influenced Esperanto to the Eric Johnson'esque Not Again, Powers of Ten is proverbial tool box of technique, yet it is never used to the detriment of what Shawn was is trying to say with the instrument.
Like another dearly departed guitar genius Michael Hedges, Shawn knew no boundaries. Brilliant.
One Of The Very Best.
I'm sure most guitar fans know of the genius guitarist Shawn Lane.If you do, you will know of this amazing album.
POT has been long out of print, for some reason or another. As a fan of Shawn theres no doubt that i would give this album 5 stars. It's one of my favourite cd's.
The compositions are purley stunning, no over the top shredding here, even though he was the fastest guitarist in the world.Just awesome displays of compositional skill ( POT-suite anyone)
Brilliant Piano playing and guitar playing make this a instrumental guitar gem which is extremely hard too find sadly.
If you like guitar, then try and find this album and be lost in the music. I know i was.
