Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Yes, FORE! is the album with those two huge singles, "Stuckwith You" and "Hip to Be Square". Huey Lewis and the News' punningly titled fourth album is surprisingly good. FORE! isa more mature record than any of the band's previous frat-boy rock platters.
FORE! opens with "Jacob's Ladder", co-written by Lewis' golfing buddy Bruce Hornsby just before he became a pop star in his own right. The song is probably thebest thing Lewis and the News ever did, and it lends its reflective tone to the rest of the album. Tracks such as "Simple as That" and the doo-wop-like single "Doin' it All for MyBaby" amplify the buried R&B influence in the band's music.Overall, FORE! recalls the pub-rock roots of the News' direct precursor, UK-loved '70s country rockers Clover, who backed Elvis Costello on his classic MY AIM IS TRUE.
Customer Reviews
Their most accomplished album.
You like Huey Lewis & The News? Their early work was a little too 'new wave' for my taste, but when "Sports" came out in '83 they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost! He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humour.
In '86 Huey released this, "Fore!” their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square", a song so catchy most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics but they should. Because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends, it’s also a personal statement about the band itself.
BRILLIANT!!!
This album is amazing!! All the songs are catchy and you'll be humming and singing them around the house all day. 'Power of love' is a classic and you may remember it from the 'Back to the Future' films. 'Hip to be Square' is another great tune. If you want some new music but aren't sure what to get my advice is.....BUY THIS!!!

AS Patrick Bateman said in the book "In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself."
