Customer Reviews
Their first of several masterpieces.
Most people come to No-man through Porcupine Tree, given that Steven Wilson is the man behind the music of No-man (with Tim Bowness supplying the lyrics and voice). But No-man is a very different sound to Porcupine Tree and remains one of those incredibly under acknowledged gems of popular music that 99.99% of people are sadly missing out on. Why this is always mystifies me, especially in this age of more mature audiences looking for beautiful, adult, classy music. And no-man are pure class. There are touches of Portishead, Pet Shop Boys and Radiohead on several of their earlier works, so if any of those appeal to you, I can highly recommend you try No-man. Tim's voice is just so beautiful. Often elegaic or melancholic it creates landscapes of peace and tranquility, as well as aching loss.
This, their first album is just full of stunners. More trip-hop than any of their later releases it is beautifully produced. The sound is dynamic and lush being a strange hybrid between late night chill out and danceable rhythms. Sweetheart Raw, Only Baby, Taking it Like a Man... there are some incredible tracks here, and there are no dull moments or fillers.
Track this gem down, fall in love with No-man and then tell everyone and anyone who will listen. This is music to change your life.
