On first hearing, the Goo Goo Dolls sound like the Replacements' distant cousins, full of trashy rock bravado tempered by intelligent, often tender lyricism and a penchant for combining ringing acoustic guitars with dirtier sounds for a rich sonic stew. In fact, DIZZY UP THE GIRL finds the Dolls moving further away from the Replacements sound than ever before, with a definite '90s influence to the proceedings. The group's main link to the Replacements (and to Paul Westerberg's main influence, Alex Chilton) is the man-child dichotomy played out over the course of the album. The youthful, energetic spirit that makes DIZZY UP THE GIRL an exciting bit of rock & roll is matched at every step by a world-weariness that gives the jangly alt-rock tunes an air of maturity.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
The orchestral-pop hit "Iris" (from the soundtrack to City of Angels) proved the Goo Goo Dolls were no one-hit wonder with 1995's "Name". One listen to "Slide", the crafty, yearning second track off their sixth release, suggests the streak continues for Buffalo's finest. Not surprisingly, aspects that make the aforementioned songs memorable--warm, acoustic stylings; strings; heartrending hooks--also make Dizzy come alive elsewhere. Ultimately, the effort documents the band's continued migration from indie rock toward the mainstream. Thus, while "Slide" and the reprise of the wondrous "Iris" might shine for weeks (or even years) of repeated listens, attempts to keep alive the group's power-trio past often have a been-there/done-that feel. --Neal Weiss

Wonderful
This album is simply beautiful.
While everyone raves about Iris following the Ronan Keating cover, I'd like to mention some of the less known songs from this CD such as Slide, and All Eyes On Me. The latter in particular is worth note as it somehow manages to be melancholy and upbeat all at once. My favourtie song on this Album (and possibly at all) is Black Balloon. I was lucky enough to see it performed live in Cambridge on the Let Love In tour and was blown away by just how moving it is.
This album is possibly the best CD you'll ever buy. I know it IS the best in my collection.
Superb!
I heard a good song on the radio last week and the DJ said it was by Goo Goo Dolls. He didn't say what track it was but I was so impressed that I ordered Dizzy Up THe Girl and Let Love In assuming it would be on the latest album.
The song was Iris and having heard it since the albums arrived I can see why it made such an impact on me. A superb song. But the best thing is that the rest of this album (and Let Love In) is also superb. I am lsitening to it on my ipod now and I have that thrill of discovering someone new to me musically and being excited by what I have found. This album gets my blood racing. The tracks are all of the highest quality and there are no fillers. Proper rock as it should be.
Buy it!!!!
Amazing
Possibly the best album i own beautiful songs upbeat and chilled and if nothing else buy it for iris the greatest song ever written
