Stunningly ethereal - nearly perfect pop music
From the mysterious and breathless beauty of "Magic", to the sparkling incandescence of "Xanadu", this album should have defined the direction for 80s pop music. The film flopped (although is now a cult favourite), but the album was a huge success. ONJ notched up two Number One hits ("Magic" in the US, and "Xanadu" in the UK), and other hits include "Suddenly" (ONJ and Cliff Richard), "I'm Alive" and "All Over The World" (both Electric Light Orchestra). Buy it, sit back, enjoy - and be transported to a place of great beauty and magic....
Xanadu,
This is a srange yet interesting idea of a soundtrck album. Not only does it feature Olivia Newton John as lead vocalist throughout the album,as she appears in most of the songs on it anyway, but its a strange cocktail of a mix.We have the big band styling on songs like Whenever your Away From Me which features ONJ and Gene Kelly on vocals but theres also The Tubes as well sharing vocals with ONJ on Dance with You, and Cliff Richard helps out on the "Suddenly" which a decent song all the same.Other tracks include Xanadu with the ELO.Dont walk away, and "Im alive" too,as well as "All Over The World" all from ELO. IF you havent seen the movie its hard to see how the songs fit in. If your unsure of this see the movie first. Alternativley if your a great fan of both Olivia Newton john, and The Electric Light Orchestra youd buy it anyway. As i say ,its intresting nonetheless.
Classic soundtrack to match Grease and others
The movie is not awful - it just lacks a really good story - the story itself is a good idea and was based on another film made years ago. So this is a remake. This is a musical fantasy and that is what the songs and the movie are about. To me it was a collecton of great music videos connected loosely by a story. Olivia looks great and the soundtrack is fantastic and spawned hits such as Xanadu, magic, I'm alive, don't walk away, all over the world - the other tracks are great like Suspended in time and the fall. 6 tracks featuring Olivia and 5 featuring ELO.
it is time the soundtrack was remastered and also the bonus tracks were added like "fool country", "you made me love you" "drum dreams" the B sides to the singles and also remixes of "Xanadu". The album could also do with new sleeve notes and pictures along with the lyrics too
