I'll come to your house.......
As an admirer of this artist, I own or have heard most of her solo work released over the last 25 years or so. This C.D. alluded me until recently.... but has exceeded even my expectations. The very obvious influence of Prince (who co produces with her) mixes well with Chaka Khan's awe inspiring vocals. His influence can really be heard on tracks like 'Democracy,' which sounds like it could have been stolen from his 80's hey day and given a late 90's reworking. Some of the songs are sexy, others are plain peculiar..... the ballads (such as 'journey 2 the centre of your heart')are beautifully delivered but avoid the dangers of going into dreary, overly slushy magic f.m. territory.
The 60 minutes that this C.D. occupies ebs and flows with never a dull moment. The quality of Chaka Khan's vocals is one that continues to belittle many (or actually all) of today's younger female soul/funk pretenders.
For my mind, this is the most complete work from this artist that I've yet to hear.
