Product Description

If you want an idea of where Britain's darlings Placebo arecoming from, imagine Smashing Pumpkins taking on the poppier sections of the Spiritualised songbook. Even that doesn't quite capture the unique sound Placebo achieves on WITHOUT YOU I'M NOTHING, so here's another clue-the title is pretty self-explanatory. The character in these songs (for diplomacy's sake, we'll give Placebo the benefit of some creative distance) is pretty unimpressed with himself and his place in the world, and like Billy Corgan of the aforementioned Pumpkins, he isn't afraid to grouse about it in a high, keening tenor over aggressive guitar backing. Unlike the Pumpkins, Placebo are students of the art of pop songcraft, and many of the tunes here will stick with you even after just one listen.

Placebo's First Masterpiece5
This is one of those albums which feels like a cohesive whole. The tracks gel into each other and jar against each other to create an uneasy feeling of a relationship that's on its last knees, with Molko realizing it is doomed and wallowing in the rejection, betrayal, longing and desire.

The songs range from very 'pop' in Placebo's unique way (the album saw 2 Top 5 UK hits) to atmospheric, dragging grating whines. They're all fantastic, and they're all different. I see it as such a classic album because of the way the separate parts hold together and play into each other. It's too difficult to describe in words, you'll just have to listen to it. Go on!

Is It a Pure Morning Second Time Round?!4
WYIN is an altogether more emotional album compared to Placebo's debut album, it seems, Mr. Molko and co were trying to create a series of songs that would target your inner feelings rather than to just be 'a good track' and this album does, mostly, succeed!Far from being my favourite Placebo album, it does contain some of their key tracks, which helped toward their success!Everybody has probably heard 'Pure Morning', an extremely uplifting experience and a great start to the album, however, 'Brick Shithouse' is a massive letdown, then, the album finds its feet again, with a run of fantastic songs including my favourite Placebo track 'Without You I'm Nothing' and, it's this middle section of the album that is simply flawless, then, things die down again for the final three tracks, two of which aren't bad, but are noticably lacking in Placebo pleasure, with the exception of the beautiful and odd 'Burger Queen' which ends the album in fine form and if you can be bothered to fast forward to the 'Hidden Track', I think the majority of us may be a little underwhelmed, but, it's no great loss!Altogether a worthy purchase and one of the best albums of the nineties!

without you i'm nothing5
I bought this album whilst studying for my SAT's after having a great urge to listen to every you every me. I had no idea how amazing this record would be! Some would argue this is Placebo's most depressing and angsty album, but there are both happy and depressing songs on this. Songs such as 'the crawl' show a darker side to their music, whereas the poppy 'you don't care about us' is lighthearted and fun to listen to. This album changed music for me, seriously. Placebo's songs on without you i'm nothing take angst to much more accesible level and showed me music can be both painful and profound. That could only be the work of Molko and co, who in my opinion are the msot real people in rock. They do the whole drugs sex and rock n roll thing, but they always seem so down to earth in a way i've never seen in rockstars. Without you I'm nothing is a perfect reflection of the band...deep, dark and passionate yet strangely endearing at the same time. Get this album, I swear it will open your eyes to what rock is. Forget all this indie crap, the kaiser chiefs and the libertines have nothing on the pure rock sounds of Placebo.
