Customer Reviews
Brilliant
I bought this album on cassette in 1988 when it first appeared and fell in love with it. I played it continuously. Realising that I could buy it on CD for such a cheap price was amazing. Obviously inspired by Midge Ure's involvement with Live Aid, it is a highly idealistic album. But there is nothing wrong with a touch of idealism. From the plaintive Dear God to the more up beat Sister and Brother via Hell to Heaven (Who designed this world we live in?) It is an album which demands close attention to the lyrics. I am playing it again continuously, having remembered how wonderful an album it is. It would be interesting to know what Midge Ure thinks of this album now but if you like Ultravox or occasionally like your songs to have some sort of social question, then I recommend this album to you. I love it.
Answers (to nothing): Sheer brilliance!
This is an album where for some part, the music or melodies fade in significance to the sheer brilliance of the lyrics. Throughout the whole album, you are left to consider the way in which we live. "Hell to Heaven" leaves you with the hairs standing on the back of your neck! Kate Bush guests on the chaotic "Sister/ Brother" but you get a real feel for the power of her voice. The chorus from 'Dear God': "Give me hope for the children, give me a worldwide religion, give me PEACE IN A RESTLESS WORLD" very simple but very effective. This album is relevant and poignant in today's troubled times!
Brilliant!
Some excellent songs on this album, songs that make you think.....my kind of songs.....listen to the words of 'Hell to Heaven'! Other favourite tracks include 'Just for you', 'Lied' and 'Honorare'. And there is the very poignant 'Homeland' written following the tragic death of Phil Lynott. 'Sister and Brother' great collaboration with Kate Bush. 'Dear God'....listen to the lyrics.....you don't have to believe in a God to relate to this!
Midge is a brilliant singer/songwriter/musician and this album reflects that.
