CD Description
The first of many CD compilations of Karen and Richard Carpenter's dozens of hit singles, 1985's YESTERDAY ONCE MORE contains 28 of the siblings' best songs--from their first hit,1969's "Ticket To Ride", to their last, 1981's "Touch Me When We're Dancing". The two-CD set eschews chronological order, sequencing the songs by mood instead. As such, it's probably the most listenable of the Carpenters' compilations, serving both as a perfect introduction to the duo's best work and as a handy sampler for longtime fans. The set was remastered by Richard Carpenter in 1998 as part of a general overhaul of the Carpenters' A&M catalogue.

Excellent!
[Two CDs, with a combined running time of 98:04] This album is a collection of 27(!) of The Carpenter's greatest tunes. The very first song is, fittingly, Yesterday Once More. Others include, Rainy Days And Mondays, I Won't Last A Day Without You, Please Mr. Postman, and many others. if you like The Carpenters, then you will like this album, it has many of their best songs, and the price is very good!

Great value and great songs but.....
...I have to say I don't like the "re-mastering" which in fact is quite a lot of re-recording of the backing tracks. I have all these songs on vinyl and grew up with them as a child and the Carpenters Singles hits '69 - '73 was the very first LP I ever bought. I virtually wore it out I played it so much - that fixes the detail of the whole song in your head and when you hear the re-work that Richard has done on this CD-set it leaves me a bit saddened that he didn't leave well alone.

Don't get me wrong, these are still great songs and I bought the CD for my partner. She won't be disappointed - but I will 'record' my vinyl tracks into a modern format so that I can enjoy the songs the way I remember them, wherever I am.

Karen Carpenter Will Always Live In My Heart
It saddens and upsets me so much that this incredible lady, with a voice from heaven, died so young. You see, I grew up listening to the The Carpenters, and not just at Christmas time like most stations tend to only do. I know all of their songs and arrangements by heart, and feel fortunate to have been around when they were consistently rotated on every radio station. I can't think of any other contemporary singer that has the depth, and a vocal presence that practically "jumps out of, and projects from my stereo speakers as Karen's". She didn't use any of those vocal "scat" gimmicks that a lot of singers are copying from each other lately. Karen just sang the song, and allowed her soul to come through, naturally. Listen to "I need to be in love", and I think you'll agree. By the way, I heard an excellent cover version of this song combined with Irving Berlins "They Say That Falling In Love Is Wonderful" by an American male 'cabaret' vocalist Michael Poss. I got it from this lad's official site, and it's on his new CD called "Silver Screen Serenades". It definitely comes very close interpreting the same melancholy feel that naturally came across with Karen's voice. I also bought the Holiday CD single, called "Christmas in Chicago" from the Michael Poss site, and it's the perfect lover's response to Karen Carpenter's "Darling" in "Merry Christmas, Darling". I wish Richard Carpenter had tons and tons of unheard demos to release, so all of us could listen to Karen's voice.
